RV Club Prayers

My wife Shirley and I enjoyed over 40 years of the RV life. It is detailed elsewhere in this book. However, for some reason, during those years I was often selected to lead us in prayers. As I find those I wrote down, they will be presented here. I claim no exclusivity to them.

An Opening Prayer

Ramblers, as we come together at this Louisiana State Rally, let us be mindful of each other. We are all here to give something of ourselves, to build rather than to tear down, to act when action is needed, rather than to delay endlessly. And if we risk failure to serve our fellow Rambler, giving up too soon is the one reason of most failures. Persevere, rather than quit. God will bless our persevering efforts. Love, smile, and forgive one another when it is needed.

Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, you taught us that those who say "I love God and hate their brothers and sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from Him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sister also.

Amen

John 4:20-21

1st Meal Prayer

Many years ago, the famous author, Robert Louis Stevenson, wrote this prayer. Let us meditate on the words as a grace before this meal.

Lord, behold our family here assembled,
We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded this day,
for the hope with which we expect tomorrow,
for the health, the work, the food and the bright skies thatomake our lives delightful for our friends in all parts of the earth.

Lord, Bless this food we pray,

Amen

2" Meal Prayer

Fear, loss, sorrow. Life often tempts us to "curse the darkness." It's natural. Yet we can too easily get lost in despair. But, in Revelations, we are told, "There will be no more nights."

This faith in God and reliance an His strength can mean all the difference in trying times. So let us ask in prayer, a prayer expressed in faith, given by Jews at Yom Kipper,

"0 Merciful God, who answerest the poor, Answer us,
O Merciful God, who answerest the lowly in spirit, Answer us,
O Merciful God, who answerest the broken of heart, Answer us.
And it is here that we say, Bless this food we pray,

Amen.

3rd Meal Prayer

A month or so ago, I lost a friend and business partner of some 37 years. Together we experienced many ups and downs. But my friend was always ready for the "sun to come up tomorrow." Jeremiah 9:23-24 was his, and I ask that you permit me to offer it to bless this meal.

"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight."

And so said the Lord. To Him we ask the blessing of this meal,

Amen
Jeremiah 9:23-24

Closing Prayer

Fellow Ramblers, after these days together, I am certain that we have far more binding us together than separating us. That is the beauty of the RV community. As one said, "In short, we learn the beauty of love."

So, love is where we start. These words of mine about leaving this rally to go home, seem to describe the word "end" but, again, it is where we start. The prayer is this.

God, Be with me on my journey this day.
Help me to see Your face in every person I meet.
For no matter how different we are, each of us is Your child, Created and loved by You.
And help me to show Your face to everyone I meet this day.
Then my journey - our journey - will be a truly blessed one.

Amen.
